A rough start to 2009…

I often use the WordPress “tag surfer” feature.
It allows you enter in tags that you are most interested in, and then it presents blog posts with those tags.
Obviously, being pro-gay rights, I have “homosexuality” as a tag.
This often induces a sate of anger based on the bigotry and/or ignorance of other bloggers.
Today I noticed a post labeled “Top 15 Gay Christian Lies of 2008.”
I was intrigued, and of course, investigated. (By investigated, I mean I clicked onto the blog and did some perusing of the mission statement, etc.)
The blog is dedicated to keeping a “watch” on gay Christians, citing them as “false prophets” and “addicts” (to a homosexual lifestyle.)
I scrolled through the list of the supposed gay lies and LOL’d at a few, such as
15. Without gays in the church writing and singing the music, the church wouldnt have anyone to depend on.
However, the rest of their list is primarily about what the Bible says.
I’d cite the source but I don’t want to cause any commotion on their page, in case they don’t moderate the comments. But you can search it yourself if you’d like.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you can’t rely on a book that has been proved to be flawed, to live your life.
You can’t take everything it says literally!
Here I am, a Catholic, have been ever since I was born, went through nine years of parochial school, and yes, I am pretty sure I know at least a basic amount of theology… and I am saying this.
Why? Because I think that it is ridiculous to live your life based exclusively on what is written in a very, very old book.
We already know that God himself did not write the book, nor did Jesus. Their followers did. And while religion will tell you that they were possessed with the Holy Spirit during their writings, the fact is, human beings are flawed. I refuse to live my life based on what a follower of God wrote down one day in his free time or when he had a pen and paper handy.
I do believe in God, at least to an extent, and I should be able to call myself a believer without having to adhere to a book that was written by a multitude of His followers and says some very, very mean things (about women, blacks, homosexuals, etc.)!
Dang! Can’t I just believe in God?
Why should I listen to anyone else?
I’ll do what I think is right and I don’t think I need to look to some book for support or clearance concerning my actions!
Anywho. I wish more people would just take the Bible with a grain of salt, is all.
There are some highlights, such as “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.” (Luke 3:16) and “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them…” (Matthew 7:12) and sure, the authors only wrote “men,” but out of human decency I think we can all use COMMON SENSE and interpret that to mean all of humankind. See what I mean about not taking the Bible literally?
I think that people look to the Bible because they want to be a believer but don’t know how to communicate with God themselves. This seems like a logical reason, because it seems to be common knowledge that the Bible is “God’s word.” However, as I already mentioned, it isn’t God’s word, it’s the words of His followers.
If you want to have a relationship with God, all I’m suggesting is talking to Him directly. K?
WHEW. /rant?
YouTube, where art thou?

So, it’s common knowledge that YouTube is pretty speedy at removing videos that violate their terms of use–for example, videos that contain pornographic or copyrighted content; however, in some cases it is not just a video that is offensive, it is a user and/or channel.

Recently, I have stumbled across two YouTube channels (which I will not post because I’d hate to give them the views) that discriminate against African Americans and homosexuals, respectively.
Now, besides the fact that this is just wrong, these two groups are protected by YouTube under its terms of use.
Yet, although I have reported these channels weeks ago, there has been no suspension of the users’ accounts.
So it leads me to wonder, is this somehow allowed?
YouTube does say this:
Hate Speech
We encourage free speech and defend everyone’s right to express unpopular points of view. But we don’t permit hate speech (speech which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity). Not everything that is mean or insulting is Hate Speech.
Is it freedom of speech to create a channel dedicated solely to spreading hate about a particular group? To elaborate, I mean using derogatory terms for certain people based on their race or sexual orientation, leaving profane, irrelevant comments on videos concerning the subject matter, and using obscene background channel graphics. In addition, these users often only favorite controversial videos that support their misguided points of view (ex. black people rob store, gay rights activists beat up conservative, etc.) When people attempt to leave comments on their pages with constructive criticism, they usually receive nasty, bigoted comments in response on their own channels.
Does anyone else think that that is just a massive waste of time and the least productive thing a person could do for society?

I consider this guy moderately hilarious.
So I’m letting you listen to him instead of me today.
I enjoy listening to other people rant.

Malls. Not really my thing either, at least the indoor ones.
Outdoor malls > indoor malls!
?
How true is that part about walking in line with other people?
Awkward.
